In January 2019 the SongData team will start publishing a bi-weekly blog spotlighting women in country music. Under the title “Keepers of the flame” we will be looking at artists’ debut on the charts, a song that has influenced the following generation, important socio-cultural and political moments, and much more! SongData offers gratitude to the lands and the Indigenous ancestors who have inhabited this land for centuries. The so-called Ottawa, Ontario is located on unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation, who are the traditional guardians of this land. We recognize that the educational and research enterprises in which we participate occur on Indigenous lands across Turtle Island and we endeavour to ensure that our activities honour and respect First Nations, Inuit and Métis people and their lands.
